Dehradun to Mussoorie by Taxi — Route, Fare & Travel Tips

Complete guide to travelling from Dehradun to Mussoorie by taxi. Fixed fares starting ₹1,500, scenic route details, best time to visit and what to see along the way.

Dehradun to Mussoorie — The Most Popular Hill Station Drive

Mussoorie, the Queen of Hills, sits just 35 km from Dehradun at an altitude of 2,005 metres. The drive takes about 1 to 1.5 hours and is one of the most scenic short journeys in Uttarakhand — winding through sal forests, past waterfalls, with the Doon Valley opening up behind you at every hairpin turn.

Route and Road Conditions

The standard route follows Rajpur Road out of Dehradun, climbing through Jharipani and Barlowganj before reaching Library Chowk in Mussoorie. The road is well maintained and fully paved. During monsoon months (July-August), occasional landslides may cause brief delays — your pahadi driver will know alternative routes.

A second route goes via Mussoorie Road through Picture Palace — slightly longer but less crowded during peak season weekends.

What to See Along the Way

Kempty Falls — 15 km before Mussoorie, this is Uttarakhand's most visited waterfall. A quick 30-minute stop is worth it, especially after monsoon when the water volume is impressive.

Jharipani Falls — A lesser-known waterfall about 8 km from Dehradun, accessible via a short walk from the road. Perfect for photographers.

Cloud's End — At the western tip of Mussoorie, where the road literally ends at the edge of the forest. Best visited on a clear day for Himalayan views.

Best Time to Visit

March to June — Pleasant weather, clear views, ideal for families. Peak season so book in advance.

September to November — Post monsoon freshness, fewer crowds, lush green landscapes.

December to February — Snowfall possibility, especially in January. Carry heavy woolens. Road stays open but drive carefully.

July to August — Monsoon. Heavy rainfall. Not recommended unless you enjoy dramatic cloud cover and solitude.

Tips for Your Trip
